CNC lathe tool shape and usage

1.    The types of turning tool tips generally used are as follows:

(1)  Rough turning tools: It is mainly used to cut a large number of redundant parts to make the diameter of the workpiece close to the required size. Surface finish is not important in rough turning, so the turning tip can be ground to a sharp peak, but the peak usually has a slight roundness to avoid breakage.

(2) Fine turning tools: The insets can be sharpened with oilstone to achieve a very smooth surface finish. Generally speaking, the round nose of the fine turning tool is larger than that of the rough turning tool.

(3) Round nose turning tools: It is suitable for many different types of work. It is a common turning tool. It can be turned left and right when grinding the top surface, and it can also be used to turn brass. This turning tool can also form a circular arc surface on the shoulder angle, and can also be used as a finishing turning tool.

(4)Threading tools: used for turning screw or nut, according to the form of the thread, it can be divided into 60-degree or 55-degree V-shaped knife, 29-degree trapezoidal knife, and square knife.

(5) Boring turning tools: used for turning drilled or cast holes. To achieve light size or true straight hole surface.

(6) End face turning tools: used to turn the end face of the workpiece, the right turning tool is usually used at the end of the finishing axle, and the left turning tool is used for finishing the left side of the shoulder.

(7) Parting off tools: Only the end is used to cut the workpiece. This turning tool can be used to cut off the material and the groove.

2. Due to the different processing methods of the workpiece, different blade shapes are adopted, which can generally be divided into:

(1)  Right-hand turning tool: from right to left, turning the outer diameter of the workpiece.

(2)  Left-hand turning tool: from left to right, turning the outer diameter of the workpiece.

(3)  Round nose turning tool: The blade is arc-shaped and can be turned left and right, suitable for turning rounded corners or curved surfaces.

(4)  Turning tool on the right side: turning the end face on the right side.

(5)  Left turning tool: turn the left end face.

(6)  Cutting knife: used for cutting or grooving.

(7)  Inner hole turning tool: used for turning inner holes.

(8)  External thread turning tool: used for turning external thread.

(9) Internal thread turning tool: used for turning internal thread.
